Jordan got us free tickets to the National Western Stock Show, so we went with my in-laws last night to get check it out.
The stock show comes to Denver every year, but we haven’t gone since before Jaylee was born. Its amazing how things become much more complicated when you have babies.
And then, once again, how they because much easier when you have two babies. Because you’ve realized that even though babies make some things harder, you just have to roll with the punches and go anyway.
There were lots of free things to do and see, and we did a bunch of those. But Jaylee’s favorite, by far, was this silly train ride. Which was, of course, ridiculously expensive. But Grams and Popsi are total pushovers, and will gladly pay ridiculous prices so that Jaylee (and Jax) can ride a silly electric train as it makes a 10 foot radius circle around on the concrete floor.
To be fair, she did really love riding it. And Jax even enjoyed it too, though I don’t think his joy was equal to the 5 dollars his grandparents paid so he could ride it. Though come to think of it, I think Grams and Popsi probably got $5 worth of joy watching him ride it.
We also went into the petting zoo, which was free. You could buy food to feed the animals, but we decided not to because we figured there was a 99% chance Jaylee would want to eat the ice cream cone the animal food was contained in.
Plus, the animals knew who had food and who didn’t. Jaylee was already a little nervous around the animals – the overt interest in the food would’ve been too much for her. She would touch each animal after I touched it, but only once. And then she’d try to get away from the animal while saying “Excuse me, goat!”
I think she prefers her farm animals when they’re plastic and lined up in a neat row according to height.
“Big trucks”, however, were another story. Those were definitely a lot of fun. She climbed right up and got to driving. Baby brother liked it too!
We had fun seeing a bunch of the sites and spending some family time together. I’m glad we were able to go on a weekday night when it wasn’t quite so crowded. I shudder to think what it would have been like on this weekend. But we can go ahead and check that off the list of fun family activities. Not too bad when you have free tickets!
