I love Friday nights! They are my favorite time of the week! We have such a great routine on Fridays, and its just a very fun and relaxing day.
When Jordan gets home on Friday’s, we always load up the kids and head over to the gym to have some fun family swimming time. The kids have some floaties that they wear, and we get in the pool with them and swim around and generally have a great time. Our rec center has a wonderful indoor pool with a lazy river and slides and a zero-entry section for the kids. And its rarely crowded (unless of course there’s a Halloween party). So we stay and swim as a family for quite some time.
Then we go into the family locker room and shower and clean up to head home. But before going home, we stop to get our favorite take-outs meals (a happy meal for the kids and Chinese take-out for us). We eat our delicious food at home, then kind of hang out for 30-45 minutes until bed time. Swimming is a nice physical activity, and the kids (and adults) are usually pretty tired by the end of the day. So we even sometimes end up with an early bedtime, which is nice for Jordan and I. 🙂 We love our kids, but we love our relaxing time as well.
Something that makes our Friday time work is that I start the laundry for it a week ahead of time. When we get home from the gym, I hang up all the swimsuits and throw all the towels in the washing machine. And when everything is clean and dry and fresh smelling, I load up our swimming gym bag right away (this usually happens Saturday morning). This is really nice because all of our stuff is packed up and ready so that we can grab and go on Friday afternoons. Going to the swimming pool with our whole family is quite the production, so its nice that the bag is already packed and ready to go when we are. Plus I’m in such a good mood after a great day and evening, that I don’t even mind the extra load of laundry. I’m happy to do it, because I know that payoff is so wonderful. Its really one of my very favorite times of the week.
I realized I never documented our Halloween. The kids were so cute. Jaylee sorta remembered from last year’s Halloween, and we watched videos to help remind her. But after the first house, she didn’t need any more prompting. And Jax just followed Jaylee, though he also caught on to the candy idea pretty quickly. Whenever he got a piece in his bag, he always had to take it out and examine it. It was super cute. My parents came over last-minute and went out trick or treating in our neighborhood with us. It was nice night – not too cold and not rainy. And the best part was that we had decided we were on our last three houses when Jaylee decided she was ready to be done. So we didn’t have to drag her away: she came on her own. It was a really fun experience.
These times are what makes raising children so magical. These are the times I’m going to love remembering and reflecting on when my babies are finally grown. These are the times that make people want kids. 🙂
